Cath Lab Setup Cost in India: Machine, Room and Consumables
Planning a cath lab? This guide covers the three budgets: the imaging machine, the shielded room around it, and the consumables used in every angioplasty.
A complete cath lab in India costs about Rs 1.75 crore to Rs 3 crore with a refurbished single-plane machine and Rs 3.5 crore to Rs 5.5 crore with a new one, based on an August 2026 Indian cost breakdown. The machine is about two-thirds of that; the shielded room, air conditioning and power make up the rest. Each angioplasty then uses about Rs 45,000 to Rs 66,000 of consumables.
Cath Lab Setup Cost at a Glance
These ranges are from an August 2026 Indian cath lab cost breakdown by RayMedico Projects. They are planning figures, not quotes.
| Type of cath lab | Machine | Total setup |
|---|---|---|
| Refurbished single-plane | Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1.6 crore | Rs 1.75 crore to Rs 3 crore |
| New mid-range single-plane | Rs 2.5 crore to Rs 4.5 crore | Rs 3.5 crore to Rs 5.5 crore |
| New premium single-plane (with FFR, IVUS, OCT) | Plus Rs 40 lakh to Rs 1 crore of software | Rs 5 crore to Rs 7 crore |
| Biplane | Rs 6 crore to Rs 10 crore | Rs 8 crore to Rs 12 crore |
| Hybrid cath lab or hybrid OT | Rs 4 crore to Rs 8 crore | Rs 10 crore to Rs 18 crore |
Most new hospital and nursing-home cath labs in India are single-plane. Biplane and hybrid labs suit large cardiac and paediatric centres.
The Room: Civil Work, Shielding and Power
Around the machine, a single-plane lab needs a shielded procedure room, a control room, a technical room and recovery bays.
| Room item (single-plane) | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Civil work and modular interiors | Rs 18 lakh to Rs 32 lakh |
| Radiation shielding (walls, lead doors, viewing window) | Rs 8 lakh to Rs 18 lakh |
| Precision air conditioning | Rs 12 lakh to Rs 22 lakh |
| UPS, isolation transformer and electricals | Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh |
| Medical gas pipeline and pendants | Rs 6 lakh to Rs 12 lakh |
| Haemodynamic monitoring and resuscitation equipment | Rs 15 lakh to Rs 35 lakh |
| Furniture, storage and lead aprons | Rs 5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh |
| Room total | About Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore |
- Procedure room: 40 to 55 sq m for single-plane, 55 to 70 sq m for biplane.
- Height: about 3.4 to 3.6 m slab to slab for a ceiling-mounted machine.
- Recovery: 4 to 8 bays of 7 to 9 sq m each.

AERB Approvals You Need
- Type-approved machine. Buy only AERB type-approved equipment from an authorised supplier.
- Layout approval. Get the shielding plan approved before building the room.
- Radiation Safety Officer. Appoint a certified RSO. A missing RSO is a common reason a finished lab cannot get its licence.
- Licence for operation. Apply on AERB’s eLORA portal after quality tests and a radiation survey. No patient can be treated before it is issued.
- Staff safety. Lead aprons, protective barriers, radiation badges (TLD) for every worker, and a warning sign on the door.
Consumables per Angioplasty
The machine is a one-time cost; consumables are spent on every case. These prices are from our cath lab buying guides and Indian listings in October 2026.
| Consumable | Typical price | Pulse product |
|---|---|---|
| Introducer sheath | Rs 650 to Rs 1,200 | AcuSafe introducer kits |
| Coronary guidewire | Quote-based | GuideX guidewires |
| Manifold | From about Rs 260 | Optima manifolds |
| PTCA balloon (1 to 2 per case) | Rs 2,750 to Rs 7,000 each | Glider SC, NC, CTO |
| Inflation device | Rs 1,500 to Rs 6,000 | Optima inflation kit |
| Drug-eluting stent | Up to Rs 39,186 + GST (NPPA ceiling) | EvroSure, MedSure, Evera, Sirova |
| Per single-stent case | About Rs 45,000 to Rs 66,000 | Plus guidewire and guiding catheter |
The stent is usually the largest item. Its price is capped by the NPPA, while balloons, wires and kits are priced by the market. See our stent price and PTCA balloon price guides.
What a Cath Lab Earns
Under CGHS rates effective October 2025, a PTCA package pays about Rs 71,166 (non-NABH) to Rs 96,284 (super speciality) without a closure device, with the stent paid separately at its NPPA ceiling price. Private hospital angioplasty bills are usually higher. Case volume, consumable prices and staff costs decide how fast a lab pays back.
How to Plan and Save
- Start with a single-plane lab unless you plan heavy paediatric or structural heart work.
- A certified refurbished machine can cut the machine cost by half; insist on AERB type approval and a service contract.
- Get the shielding layout approved before civil work starts, to avoid costly rework.
- Agree consumable rates and consignment stock with one supplier for stents, balloons, wires and kits.
Pulse Cath Lab Consumables
Pulse supplies the single-use items a cath lab uses every day: four drug-eluting stents (EvroSure, MedSure, Evera and Sirova), Glider PTCA balloons, the Mamba drug-coated balloon, GuideX guidewires, Optima inflation kits, manifolds and AcuSafe sheath kits. Pulse does not supply the cath lab imaging machine itself.

Cath Lab Setup Cost in India: FAQs
How much does it cost to set up a cath lab in India?
A single-plane cath lab costs about Rs 1.75 crore to Rs 3 crore with a refurbished machine and Rs 3.5 crore to Rs 5.5 crore with a new one, including the room. A biplane lab costs about Rs 8 crore to Rs 12 crore (RayMedico, August 2026).

The X-ray machine must be AERB type-approved, the room shielding layout approved, a Radiation Safety Officer appointed, and a licence for operation obtained on AERB’s eLORA portal before treating patients.
What consumables are used in one angioplasty?
A typical single-stent angioplasty uses an introducer sheath, guiding catheter, guidewire, one or two PTCA balloons, an inflation device, a manifold and a drug-eluting stent. These cost about Rs 45,000 to Rs 66,000 before the guidewire and guiding catheter.
Can Pulse supply cath lab consumables?
