A medical gas pipeline brings oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air and suction to every bed and theatre from one central plant. Gas comes from the source (cylinder manifolds with automatic changeover panels), travels through copper pipes with zone valves and alarms, and reaches the patient at outlets on bed head panels, vertical columns or ceiling pendants.
Because gas is piped, staff no longer move heavy cylinders through wards, and supply stays steady when one bank of cylinders runs out.
