What Makes One Chair Cost More Than Another

1. How heavy the chair is

A lighter chair is easier to lift into a car. Light metals like aluminium cost more than steel. That is why the lightest chairs are often not the cheapest ones.

2. The battery

Lithium batteries are light and last for years. Lead-acid batteries are cheaper but heavy, and they wear out sooner. All Pulse electric wheelchairs use lithium batteries.

3. How it folds

Some chairs fold by hand. Some fold with one click. The most costly ones fold by themselves when you press a button on a remote.

4. Comfort features

A back that leans back, a headrest, springs for bumpy roads and a wider seat all add to the price. They matter a lot if the person sits in the chair for many hours a day.

5. How much weight it can carry

Chairs made for heavier users need a stronger frame and a bigger battery. That raises the price.

6. Service and spare parts

A cheap chair is not cheap if nobody can fix it. Ask who will repair it, how fast, and whether spare parts are kept in India. Read more in our guide on why after-sales service matters.

Look at Joylite 1, Joylite 2, Smartride 1, Smartride 2 and Aerodrive 2. These fall in the light and foldable group. Smartride 2 folds by itself, so it fits the auto-fold group.

Need to rest or lie back in the chair?

Look at Aerodrive 1 and Cruza. Both lean back up to 160°, which is almost flat. This helps people who sit for many hours, need a nap, or need care in the chair.

Need a stronger chair?

Look at Motion Pro 1, Motion Pro 2 and Cruza. They carry up to 140 kg and have the biggest battery, 24V 20Ah.

Want fewer repairs?

Joylite 1, Joylite 2 and Xtrion have puncture-free tyres. You never have to fill them with air.

Before you buy: a quick checklist

  1. Weigh the person. Pick a chair that carries more than their weight.
  2. Measure the car boot and the doors at home. Check the folded size fits.
  3. Ask who will lift the chair. If it is an older family member, pick a light one.
  4. Ask for a test ride on the roads you use every day.
  5. Ask if the price includes GST, delivery and a charger.
  6. Ask about the warranty, battery cost and who repairs it near you.
